I think that the Latin America unit was fun and interesting. I learned a lot about what history really is and that the history we know might not be true. Three things I learned are how history is not a straightforward story, that you should use the resources you're given and that team work in some situations is much better.
I learned that history, depending on the writer, will not be the same. It will be changed in the favor of the writer's country. This leads to multiple versions of history. For example, if you grew up in America, you were probably told about the great adventurer Columbus. You were also told that he did good things and that the natives were happy to see him. Well, trustworthy sources like historians or Columbus himself wrote that the natives were actually taken as slaves and had their land taken from them by force. The slaves were tortured and killed if they didn't do their work well or sometimes just for fun. This is really different from what most people were told and shows how writers can change history.
I also learned that a team can help a lot and that you should use all the material that is given to you. Working as a team for the living timeline was necessary because there was more than one character in my play. This gave me an opportunity to work as a team, it helped me see how helpful partners are. From moments when I was stuck and couldn't find ideas to the filming and playing in general, not having a team would have made this project almost impossible. I have also learned that you should use anything you have at your disposal to make your work better. At the start of filming we chose not to use the green screen room because it would not be worth the time. This proved to be wrong because the modern atmosphere the school provided made it difficult to capture the feeling of the 1820. We chose to scrap the first video and use the green screen instead, and we saw the quality of our video go up. We were able to capture the 1820 feeling and make things, like the sound, better.

A challenge that still stays is the language barrier. I speak French so writing and speaking in English is harder for me than for most people. This can be seen in any of my blog entries or school texts. This is a challenge I'm working on overcoming everyday by practicing my English and having a tutor to help me. It makes this project that much harder because it required me to write two texts and to speak in English for the video.
If I would have to do this project again, I would probably go directly to the green screen instead of wasting time filming outside. This would have given me more time to film and edit. I think that our video was good, but it would have given me more time to redo scenes that did not turn out good in the final product. (Zooming problems)
This unit helped me see that history is not always straightforward. That makes me a better person because it makes me question everything I read or am told. This, I think, could improve the world enormously if everyone would think about what they read or were told to see if it made sense.
